Biography

Mimitah is a female African artist born in the D.R Congo; then later grew up in the UK.  Her style of music is based around Congolese music with a mixture of all the different music styles she’s been influenced by while growing up in the UK.

Mimitah’s love of music began when she was just a little girl; she grew up watching other female artist like Mbilia Bel, Mpongo Love; Abeti, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and more. It was only at 13 Mimitah joined a junior choir in her east London church, this gave her the opportunity to perform every Sundays.

Mimitah enjoyed singing in church; at the same time she joined local girl band singing pop, garage; R&B, and hip-hop. The first band she joined was a gospel band called heaven above, in this group Mimitah did both singing and rap.

By the time Mimitah was 17 she realized that she could do more in music, so she started doing session singing in studios, she was introduces to a local band in east London called Africa jambo led by Kawele “finger printer,” where she danced and did cover songs that was sang by other well known African female artist. Every Sundays at a local club, mimitah got the chance to be seen and heard by adoring public.

While playing with Africa jambo, Mimitah was introduced to Kanda Bongo Man’s agent who was looking for dancers for Kanda’s Womad show in Australia. From then on Mimitah continued performing with Kanda Bongo Man, he later asked Mimitah to not only dance with him but also sing alongside him.

Mimitah has been able to perform all over the uk and Ireland, she has performed in other big festival like the big chill, womad festivals, night clubs and places like the jazz cafe in Camden town.

Mimitah is still performing with Kanda Bongo Man till date; she is now a supporting act for Kanga Bongo Man.
